Hello, I'm currently looking into interior design programs in Ontario, Canada and I have some questions I hope someone can help me out with. The main question being: Does success in the industry mean I will have to graduate from a CIDA accredited program?

Currently I'm very interested in a 3 year college program that is not accredited by CIDA, however it is recognized by ARIDO (Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario). Does this put me at a disadvantage? Or can I still find a job at a design firm without graduating from an accredited program?

Hi Katie,

I don't know any of the organizations you just mentioned (sorry I am European) but bottom line is it helps when your college or course is recognized by the industry.  It doesn't necessary mean it needs to be accredited by a certain organization.  There are certain private colleges which are not recognized by any official organization but are nevertheless highly regarded because they deliver competent students to the industry.  Why don't you check the reputation of your college?  Ask your college for some references and talk to some ex-alumni.  It will give you a better image at where you are at.
