Hi,

New on this forum and like what I've seen so far. Has anyone changed from a different career into Interior Design? How did you find it and what channels did you go through? I'm approaching 43 and been in an IT career for the past 14 years and looking at changing careers. I've always had a creative side and love art and design. Since renovating my own home my creative side has been woken up even more and looking at retraining as an Interior Designer.

Has anyone completed the KLC Interior Design course? Was it as one expected and were you able to find work during or after the course?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi Rob,

Brave consideration you are making, although I am convinced there is probably more work in IT then there is in interior design. If you plan to go out on your own as a freelance designer the market is tough. With the financial crisis many people skip the interior design part and go straight to the builder. If you apply for a job realize interior design isn't paid all that well. There are still jobs available in sales. Kitchen, bathroom or interior design sales. Kitchen/bathroom chains which need you to assist clients in buying their kitchens/bathrooms. You do some designing with standardized programs.

I am not sure you will be financially better off if you walk away from IT. It's all a question of what matters more to you, your work or your wallet.

Thanks for your reply and advice. I realise that the market is tough and the job won't be well paid. In hindsight, I wish I had taken a more creative career path than the one I have now.
