Hello all,

This is my first post here, so please be patient.

I've recently moved into a riverside penthouse apartment, which I chose mostly for the view, but I've found myself with a beautifully built, spacious, modern apartment as part of the deal.

I've spent a lot of time, effort and money in my lounge. It looks great in my opinion, relaxing and comfortable but also modern and stylish.

Now, I'm completely at a loss with what to do in my bedroom, I've got no idea how to make it look good. Plum with cream is my chosen colour scheme, but I really have a blank canvas, and I've got artist's block. The room is a good size, but has a sloping wall, which means it is not square. There is a large window with a Juliet balcony, but it is in one corner.

Everything currently in this room is cream, the walls are cream, and the carpet is cream. I have no bedroom furniture at the moment.

I was wondering if anyone can give me any advice before I start, I'm usually quite creative, but as I've said, I have no idea what I really want to do. The room is big enough to take a dark colour, but because of the location of the balcony, I don't want it to be too DARK.

Any advice appreciated, and I can post pictures and plans if this would help anyone with giving me some ideas.

Thank you in advance,

Best Regards,

Penthousing.

The theme of plum and cream is nice. If you want to keep the room looking bright then I suggest you use more of cream and less of plum paint in the room. As the roof is also slant if you put more of dark colours it will lookcramped.

If you choose to use cream paint as the base then you can add colour through the furniture, plum coloured curtains will look good.

I hope these suggestions help you out in some way :)

Thank you for your reply.

Apologies, my original post was badly worded, the roof is not at a slope, one of the walls is at an angle, rather.

Here are the photographs and plan of the room.

Because the balcony windows aren't in the centre of the wall, and the corner goes to an acute angle, I don't want this to be dark, however I did want to use a feature wall.

I'm totally open minded here, I have no furniture at the moment, I'm waiting to order some. The double bed has arrived, but it is in the other bedroom until I'm ready to move in to this room, at which point the other bedroom will become my office.

Regards,

Definately get a chandelier for your bedroom.

I would go for black chandelier to add some drama and it will look amazing with your plum theme.

here are some black chandeliers to choose from:

Firstly Congratulations on your new house! Looks like you have got a real great place for yourself. The pictures of your lounge are very nice, looks realy comfortable and pretty. For your bedroom the color scheme you have chosen is good. The sloping roof should not be a hindrance in any of your decor plans. If you are not too fond of it paint it a dark color and let the color run down your wall too along with the roof, that way it kills the sloping effect.. To enhance the slope there are many design options you can use just for your slope, to not give it much of importance, leave it as it is. You could go for a all white room, with plum  upholstery and soft furnishing. This will not make the room dark, but still give you the color. I think for bedroom, less is more, so do not do too much of anything. Keep it simple!

Congratulations on your new room. :) I came across this article entitled "7 Dreamy Bedrooms To Inspire You" and I found it helpful when I was still conceptualizing my own bedroom. I love the idea of adding white accent pieces, so I went and bought a Maison Balzac candle which added a simple but elegant touch in my room. Hope this one's helpful! Wink

1. Pick the right colour – Its important that you a colour that leaves a soothing effect on you. I believe you have already chosen the colour scheme of Plum with cream which is great. Otherwise you can also go for something like Magnolia.
2. Invest in proper lighting – Lights enhance the decor of a room, so its important to invest in the right ones. tables lamps on either side of the bed looks good.
3. Comfortable rug by the side of the bed so that you don't have to step on cold hard floor in the morning.
4. Decide on a theme and accordingly accessorise your walls.
5. Remember to keep a place to sit in the room such as a small sofa.
6. Include enough number of pillows in your bed so that it looks inviting.

How's it going? Are you done with your bedroom design? Maybe you can also make use of this – Modern Design Ideas For Your Bedroom, if you want to give it a good modern look. I also used this when I was choosing a design for our granny flat's masters bedroom. You can also get color ideas from it, I chose the lighter one.
